Bengali Short Story in English Script

The Greedy Dog

English Version:

One day, a greedy dog stole a piece of meat from a butcher’s shop. Upon noticing, the butcher chased after him, but the dog managed to escape and quickly returned to his own den. On this side, the dog was terrified, desperate to save his life.

After a considerable distance, he looked back to see if the butcher was still pursuing him. Not seeing anyone approaching, he slowed down his pace and cautiously walked away to ensure his safety. After a while, he arrived near a small river.

At that moment, holding the stolen piece of meat in his mouth, he had to cross the river using a small bridge. As he started crossing, he saw his reflection in the river’s clear water. The greedy and foolish dog mistook his own reflection for another dog with a piece of meat in its mouth. The temptation for the other piece of meat made him greedy.

Without giving it a second thought, he jumped into the river, hoping to grab the other piece of meat. However, as he entered the water, the current swiftly carried him away, taking not only the stolen meat but also his precious life.
